Cucak Ijo Bird is the mascot of Malang Regency. It belongs to the chloropsis sonnerati group. The bird has a beautiful voice. It lives in the foresh with small river in south Malang and another areas in Malang Regency.

THE DESCRIPTION OF CUCAK IJO BIRD IS:
· The father has a green colour.
· The male bird has a black colour from the face to the neck and black bill,
· The male bird has a black colour from the face to the neck and black bill, but the female one has a yellow colour and brown bill.

pple tree in Indonesia (especially in Malang) began to be known about the year 1908 before Indonesia proclaimed the independence. The Ducth was the first people who broughtit, and rearched good areas for apple growing. Batu is one of them, and above all it is the most suitable. The first apple variety grown in Batu was Rome Beauty.
About 1969, after Indonesia got its independence, the "Banaran Garden Institution" found a new apple variety,namely Manalagi Apple. The man who found it is Mr. Surahmat Kusumo, a senior fruittracker from "Balai Penelitian Hortikultura Pasar Minggu" (Horticultural Research Institution Pasar Minggu) Jakarta. This new variety was from Gandon village, because this variety was not found in Holand and other parts of the world; so this variety was finally considered as an Indonesian Apple. And, because of its nice taste, this apple is called "Manalagi" (Javanese, means: give me more)

The term " gedog " in wayang gedog hs provoked several point of views, among others

* Gedong means the limiting barrier between " wayang purwa " and " wayang Klitik . " Gedug "
( " nggedung" in javanese means : up to the limit )
* Gedong was taken form tehe word " Gedhongan " which means a stable since there are many
characters of the story who arae called " kuda " ( horse ), among others : " kuda waningpati"
or " Panji " .
* Gedog is from the word " gog " like the sound of " kepark " . " Wayang Gedog " performance
at the beginning is not accompained by the sound of " kecrek " so that the " keprak " sound
" dog " is very dominant.

"Wayang Gedog " aws invented by Sunan Giri when the cult of islam penetrated java. The performance of " Wayang gedog " is accompanied by the sound of ' Gamelan Pelog ' . The story
is taken from " panji " stories which appeared at the reign og Jenggala ang Kediri Kingdom.
The term " Panji " at that time was used as a title of Honor for knights and kings since in the epic is given to Inukertapati the prince of jenggala who is onbollved in a love affair with the Empress og Kediri Dewi Sekartaji. The love story is popular in East Java as the story of " Ande
- Ande Lumut ".

This Kind of " Wayang " is made of wood, held on the back. its hands are made of leather and
the profile is similiar to "wayang Purwo " .
The color is mostyl red, brown , black, and white modified with gold color. Since it is called " Krucil " in Javanessa language its means small.

According to Sinuhun Pakubuwono II, the " Wayang " is called Klitik Because it is made of wood in a teo dimensional form and when it is perfomed, it produces the sound like " klitik, Klitik ".

Semboro Sugar Factory, 35 km west of Jember, was built in Colonial Dutch period by Handles Vereniging Amsterdam (a Dutch private company) in 1921 with 2103 hectares of sugar cane field which spreads out in the western and the northern part of Jember. In colonial Japanese period, the producing sugar activities stopped and at the same time it was changed as soda factory to fulfill the needs of Japanese Government. Few years after Indonesian Independence Day, precisely in 1949, it was made as an ammunition factory to provide supplies for the Indonesian freedom fighters against the colonial to reoccupy Indonesian country. From 1950 to 1957 the milling activities began producing sugar which was already taken over by Indonesian government. Due to its demands since 1978, Semboro sugar factory has tried to increase its production from 24.000 kw to 54.000 kw per day by processing carbonization into sulfitation with the area of more or less 10.500 hectares. The foreign visitors can make nostalgic tour by steam loco for 2 hours as well as they can see the beautiful view along the trip. To get there, the visitors can take rental car and transportation in 120 minutes from central town.

Watu Ulo is one of the tourist objects which lies in the side of Indonesian ocean that has beautiful panorama and it is the right place for enjoying the sea. It is called "watu ulo" by the native inhabitants because in the former time there was a snake making asceticism. After succeeding his asceticism, it became a stone resembling a snake, sticking into the sea, and its body lied on the land. In the Japanese occupation period at the coastal area, the Japanese soldiers made fortresses which are used for fortifying against the attacking enemies and now some of the fortresses become tourist objects. The people in the coastal area called it Japanese fortress because beside the Japanese fortress, there is also a bat cave inhabited thousands of bats. The visitors can across along the shore and the sand to get to the cave. The lonely situation of the cave is often used for meditation by people, remembering that the cave has 100m depth. 222 km from Surabaya, Jember is the centre of economic activity in the eastern region of the province of East Java. Geographical Location
Jember District lies between 6 degrees 59' 9'- 7 degrees 14' 33" east longitude and 7 degrees 59' 6" - 8 degrees 33' 56" south latitude. Central and southern part of the district is fertile valley, surrounded by mountain which is lies along the north and east borders, Indonesia ocean along the southern part with Nusa Barong island, the only island in Jember District.

Basically, Jember District has no native resident which mean most of them are immigrant from other districts. This is because Jember District is still relatively new and developing region that make many people come to make a living. Most of people are Javanese and Madurese and small amount of other local clans and also some foreign citizen. Harmony in inter-clan relationship has shaped a specific characteristic of its people such as dynamic, creative, well-behave and courteous.
